Semester Projects

3d Animation

Project info

I wanted to create a 3d motion graphics that I want to see, this made me thinking "How my uni assignment will look like if they turns into digital 3d graphics!" This project not only helped me create an animation I'm happy about but also showed what I love doing and the kind of work I wish to do in future. I don't know what category to put this animation, but I came up combining two words "abstract realities" where things exist in real but not in the form you see.

Scene Explanation

There are six scenes each representing one assignments from my first semester subjects. I tried explaining each scene by breaking down it's meaning below.

// Scene 1 - 3D Visualisation

The first scene represents the first assignments of the semester. The tasks was to create in between shapes for the transition from one shape to another. The actual work is on the right, where you can see white, black and transparent shape in the middle.

// Scene 2 - Sketching & Representation I

The first part of the second module was all about experimenting different art styles. But the very first day of the module was to play with ink, where we created abstract shapes and patterns as per our wish. (It was all blue in the end.)

// Scene 3 - Sketching & Representation II

The second part of the second module was about comic making. We were told to form groups and each group's comic should be a non fiction theme. My group (Group 6) took theme of F1 where we shared Ayrton Senna's story from early days in F1 to this last race in Formula 1.

// Scene 4 - Elements & Principle of Design

From the Element & Principle of Design module one of the assignment was to turn a picture into mosaique. I took the picture of the lamp and choosed blue and yellow colour to build contrast, between the lamp and the background.

// Scene 5 - Typography

In the typography module, there were practices related to understanding anatomy of typefaces, and selecting type for different emotions.

// Scene 6 - Design Thinking

The last module of the sem, where we learned about design thinking. And personally I may say sticky notes is what we used everyday to think, iterate and design.

Process Breakdown

MUSIC

The first step was to find the right music for video. I was following Romain Braccini for a long time and really admired his works. While browing this Instagram, I came aross the Kitchen motion video, I really liked the sound design, done by Adrobski and while I was viewing the video I was simultaneously visualising my storyboard, and it fitted very well with the sound design.

Storyboard & Sketches

Storyboard was very straightforward, I knew from the begining what exactly need the video to look like, I made quick sketches of the elements which can be morphed from one to another.

TEST RENDERS

These are initial renders done to sync each scenes with each other and music.

Visual Exploration

After modelling objects in Cinema 4D I explored visual styles using Redshift.
